48 Hour film project Cape Town's youngest team leader Kimite Cancino
48 HRP Cape Town's youngest film director.
Kimite Cancino, one of the most inspiring young kids on the block, being a published author at 16 years old, entered the world wide film festival competition on the 15th September 2013, making history as she challenges herself to make a short film in 48 hours.
The thriving teen sensation went up against 3'd year college students, movie producers, and highly paid professional actors.
The kick off started on Friday 4th of October at 7:00pm where herself and 26 other teams had to draw a genre out of a hat. All 27 teams got given the same Prop (An Envelope), same line of dialogue (You Gonna Learn), and same character (Nandi) to add to their short film.

She single mindedly wrote the script herself the Friday night right through to early hours of the Saturday morning, getting no sleep. Two of her cast disappointed her as they refused to answer her phone calls on the day of shooting. But nonetheless, one of the cast members had found quick replacements. However, none of the crew or cast agreed that Kimite's script would win so Kimite had to come up with a new story on the spot.
After 4 hours of shooting, the entire team had wet there pants from laughter as her first ever short film, Kyle's Beef, was born. The movie made no sense but as Kimite got into the edit part, the storyline started to form.
Unfortunately all her team went home at 4pm on Saturday so she had to tackle the editing herself. On Sunday lunchtime, one of her friends came by to help out in which had lost her valuable time as the deadline for the rendering was at 3pm. Throughout the tough stages of editing with her old fashion computer which slowed down half the process, she managed to finish the rendering at 8pm. The drop-off deadline was at 7:30pm.
Although she missed the deadline and her short film would not be able to win any awards, she at least had the best weekend in her whole life.
"It had been a veerrrryyy long time since I laughed that much. I thank my mom and sister for being my biggest support. Will repay you someday when I start making the money." --Kimite Cancino

On the 21 of October 2013, Kimite Cancino and her family went to watch her short film on the big screens at the V&A waterfront at Ster Kinekor Noveau movie theatre. Unfortunately all tickets were sold out so her sister could not watch the film.
She highly enjoyed all the fantastic films made by all the other teams, while her heart still pounded inside her chest as her movie was coming up. The audience was all given a slip of paper that they could vote for their favorite movie once all the films were shown.
Kyle's Beef was the last film shown and made the crowd laugh at some scenes. However, she underestimated the audio of the film and it displeased some of the audience.
In the end all the team leaders were called up to the front of the huge audience and each leader exchanged their frightening, hilarious and sleepless weekend. The audience were quite thrown back when they learnt that Kimite Cancino was the youngest film director/editor/script writer/actress on this project in Cape Town. Questions were asked about her age and if she had other experience I and making short films.
It was an experience she will never forget and will cherish the audience applause for eternity.
Oh, and yes, this was her first film she had ever made and many many many more to come.
Special thanks to her cast = Sacha Lee Cancino, Siya Nimtomsi, Jeremy Moser, Bryon Cloete, Melissa Eybers.
And her crew = Michelle Cancino, Sean Idris, Matt Phoenix.
